About Us

We believe that every child is born with an innate and profound musicality. At the most basic and obvious level, this musicality is demonstrated every day in such things as our ability to walk and talk. Our musicality is a gift, and with proper nurturing, it grows with your child.

April Jantzen-Vigue is the founder and director of the locally developed Little Beats Music for Children. The program focuses on teaching and inspiring children ranging from infants to kindergartners, in her Lake Country studio, since 2018.

"Teacher April" earned her Bachelors Degrees in Music and Education at the University of British Columbia in 2009, and has been working with young children since the age of 19. She also has her certification levels through the Royal Conservatory of Music, and is a licensed Early Childhood Music Educator, and more specifically, a licensed Music Rhapsody Teacher.

April has been playing music for over 30 years, and teaching for 20 years. Her knowledge and experience range from solo performances, to collaboration with other artists and groups, to teaching students and classes of all ages. April has taught a wide variety of music classes, including individual piano, voice and theory, as well as serving as choral director for both children and adult choirs.

April is currently the "Composer in Residence" for Beata Vocal Ensemble based in Vancouver, and also sings in the well-established Spectrum Singers Choir in Kelowna.

April also teaches with her friend and partner Crystal Doughty, owner and instructor at Music and Movement for Children. Teacher Crystal's studio is located in downtown Kelowna.

Here's what our families say

Little Beats Music class has helped my daughter explore music, come out of her shell, and interact with other children. Teacher April not only has a beautiful voice and is a very skilled musician, but she has a very unique way of engaging babies, toddlers and kids. Teacher April uses songs, musical instruments, activities, and games to keep toddlers engaged for the entire class! My daughter has learned things that I know she only picked up from music class. I would highly recommend Little Beats!"

"We LOVED music classes with Teacher April! She's an amazing instructor, and she uses a combination of beautiful music tracks designed for activities, popular music, and her lovely singing voice a cappella during class. My son loved her ukulele playing from the start, and it was a treat for the kids to hear Teacher April play the piano LIVE during class and at the end of class for our special "listening time".

We have been with Teacher April since the beginning and my daughter, who was 8 months at the time, has a better understanding of her personal space, rhythm, and musicality in general because of Little Beats. When you hear Teacher April talk about the importance of music in a child's life from infancy onward, it makes total sense. You're learning an entire language that improves timing, listening, coordination, memory, concentration and speech! Babies truly do sing before they talk, and dance before they walk! We've enjoyed moving through this program together with Teacher April."
